Pigskin Classic XIV

Dads, teachers and Old Boys once again took to the field on January 3rd to battle at the fourteenth annual Pigskin Classic. It was a beautiful afternoon on the athletic field, all striped-up for the two playing fields. This year, our team of seasoned referees included one who had just worked the Rose Bowl days before!

Of the 95 players out for the day, the boys were divided into teams by class year, to face the dad's and faculty teams. We got a taste of running skill of John Hebert ('22), below, now a D1 recruit at U of Houston.

Above, Bowen Moore of the 2021 team was devastating on defense, here chasing quarterback Jett Bush ('15) who was recruited by the NE Patriots last year

Above, James Schuelke (Jack 8th, Jimmy 6th, Luke 4th) was one of the stars on the Dad's team

Mr. Keenley with Team 2023, great young men!

The final game of the 7-on-7 tournament matched the Class of 2021 against the team of the “oldest Old Boys,” ending with the Class of 2021 once again winning for their third win in a row. Will any class be able to throttle these dominant young men in the future? That is the question!

Above, the Class of 2021 Champions: (Top, L-R) Alex Baba, Bowen Moore, Henry Omanga, Rowan Bishop, Bennett Groover, Luke Omanga, Greg Pearson, Pablo Caranti, Jonas Henderson, Ian Riches, Spencer Sierra, Dylan Lau, (Bottom) Alex Baba, Joseph Nichols, Berhane Linbeck, Jackson Hebert (MVP), Landon Lord, Gabe Espinosa and Mateu Orendain. Also on hand were Luke Webber, David Roman-Pavajeau and John Divine.

Pictured with the champions below are runner's-up, the "Old Boys team" in teal shirts on the right. They are, in top row, Jackson Phillips (’16), Patrick Smetek ('15), Thomas Langley (’18), David Heffernan (’13), Garrett England ('19) Jorge Raul ('19), middle row are Chris Gosselin (’12), Nick O’Bar (’12). And below, Andy Gosselin ('16), Joe Rick Madden ('18), Josh Hebert ('19). To the far left are Collin England (’18) and Andy Caranti ('18).

The golden pigskin MVP football went to Team 2021 quarterback, Jackson Hebert (’21), here with teammate, Landon Lord

The Pigskin is indeed a classic tradition, with the first one held the year after Western's first graduation in 2012.

Big shout outs to Coaches McBride and D’Andrea for lining the fields, Mrs. Corey Weiss and Albert Chincuanco for event prep, and our Games Captain, Mr. Justin Hebert. Below, the players shot before the tourney

Plenty of babies on hand for the game, here the families of Nick O'Bar ('12), Christopher Gosselin ('12) and David Heffernan ('13)
