FIELD TRIP RECAPS

3rd Grade- The 3rd grade started the week off with an incredible field trip at Brazos Bend State Park. Almost as soon as they arrived, the boys spotted a large gator while they admired 40 Acre Lake from the dock. Soon enough, however, the gator made his presence known as he chased off a pretender who sought to take his shady spot under the dock and crowd of milling students.

One might think that that would have been enough excitement, but the boys were eager to sally forth and soon departed on a 4.5 mile trek through acres of prairie land, lakes, and swamps where they admired the beauty of several birds, enjoyed the croaking of bull frogs, and got up close to a few snakes.

Everyone's favorite part, however, was when they stumbled upon a gator on the side of the lake, just a meter off the path, enjoying a mid-afternoon snack, a large turtle, still writhing and trying to escape from the gator's jaws. They all stood and watched, fascinated (a few were disturbed), as the gator crushed through the shell with a loud crack. The boys edged closer eager to see more. It wasn't until the gator lifted one menacing eyebrow and put down the turtle that the group decided to move on before he should decide he wants a rarer delicacy. Fortunately, no such fare was on the menu as the teachers moved the boys away from the gator's beguiling and toothy grin.

After their adventures, the boys delighted in the park's great playground and trees which had grown particularly well for climbing, all of which made for a great game of The Floor is Lava and then later Infection. It was a happy and tired bunch that left the park that day expectant for future field trips.

4th Grade -
This past Thursday and Friday the intrepid boys of 4A and 4B traveled with their dads and homeroom teachers to Taysha Ranch, a beautiful, bucolic getaway abutting the Sam Houston National Forest near Huntsville. The Carantis, a founding family of WA, generously invited this young band of brothers to frolic on their ranch.

The boys eagerly took up the call and had a blast pitching tents, exploring the woods, fishing the stocked pond, starting fires, devouring s'mores, sharpening sticks, and playing tag well into the evening. Meanwhile, the dads enjoyed getting to know one another by the fire and were quite amused by the antics of their sons. Special kudos to Mr. Kolf and Mr. Ejiaga for organizing this adventure!
