A Trumpeter, Drum Major & More!

It’s hard to find a young man as busy as Tripp Mediamolle (’22). He is articulate, self-assured and calmly enthusiastic about everything he does, whether it’s his music, theater, coaching swimming, or the small business he runs.

Talking about his six years at Western, Tripp says, “I loved many things about Western. One thing I will always remember is how our teachers would play with us on the fields during breaks, always being with us. Being able to learn outdoors, in nature, and to go to Mass every day, I felt a strong connection with Our Lord in the chapel.”

Tripp learned to play the trumpet in 5th grade, but after the band teacher had to leave during the hard times of 2020, he says, “Mr. Keenley helped keep the band going. It was then that I began working as a leader, along with playing trumpet and piano. We were so grateful for all the shows and singing, it all helped me develop my sense of music, performing and working with others. I am very grateful to have had this chance.”

Tripp plays his trumpet in the Honors Band at Stratford High School, competing in UIL competitions of all sorts. He also has recently started co-leading the Jazz Band and will be conducting a piece at the Spring concert.

This school year, Tripp made drum major in the marching band. He describes his role as, “more involved than any drum majors in past, I’m giving more input than others do, I'm involved in the shows from start to finish, helping manage people and equipment down to the smallest details.”

Tripp also works on the tech crew for Stratford Playhouse in the new auditorium. He speaks about his role “working as fly head.” He is responsible for the thirty-foot high stage backdrops which are extremely heavy. His job is to make sure they appear seamlessly on stage along with any thing else that needs to ‘fly,’ even people! “We are doing our spring play right now, Puffs.”

Besides coaching in his neighborhood swim team in the summer, he also manages Tripp’s Pool Service, a very profitable business with an employee and many satisfied customers.

After high school, Tripp plans to attend college and major in Business Entrepreneurship or Management and continue playing trumpet and marching in a college band, and then see what happens.
