Longhorn Southpaw: Update

It's official, lefty pitcher, Matthew Manis ('22), will pitch at the University of Texas next year. Matthew will complete his senior year this spring at Memorial High School, after a year of accolades.

Athletic Director and coach, Mr. Brian D'Andrea, says, "I was able to celebrate with Matthew and his family as he signed with UT at the Memorial High School Signing Day. Matthew has been excited about playing for the Longhorns for a long time. He is now looking forward to great senior season, and it seems eight of his teammates have signed with college teams.”

“Matthew played football and baseball at WA. He worked hard in class, academically. Athletically, Matthew was quarterback for us in football. He and Johnny Hebert (’21) won our first championship together in 2020.”

At Memorial High School, in his junior year last year, Matthew had a 89-91 mph fastball and a 78-80 mph slider. See a short video of Matthew pitching HERE

Matthew was a Green Jay quarterback in his day, and a good one at that, in 2021. Here he is below with his "shadow," a young Parker Hebert, now a 7th grade running back for the Green Jays.
