Jett, Back on Campus
After school on the front field these days it’s track season. Among Western’s Track & Field coaches is Mr. Jett Bush (’15). “I love to come here and work with the boys, I look forward to it, it’s the best part of my day. I try to impact them in the positive ways like when I was at Western. I help open their young eyes to the possibilities of achieving great things.”
Jett explains, “Western creates a discipline and an atmosphere to foster creativity and spirituality and allows kids to grow themselves. Our teachers advised us on how to be a man, a strong man, a leader, and we learned from their example. Among my teachers I remember especially were Mr. Power, Mr. Hebert, Mr. Hoff, Mr. Keenley, Mr. Miggins, and Mr. Creech. You are not going to get mentors like these anywhere else!
“At Western, I was eager to come to school every day, excited to see friends and good teachers, I couldn’t wait to get here. My favorite classes were Art and History. I especially loved the festival games.”
Jett graduated from Strake Jesuit in 2019 and went on to UT, Austin. He walked on to the football team his freshman year, became a Captain, and received his scholarship starting his sophomore year.
Jett explains, “I was a Liberal Arts major in college, but playing D1 Football is a full-time job. We were on a strict schedule, up at 5 am, then 9.30 pm to bed. If you want to be great, football was the main priority.”
Since graduating from UT in December, Jett is training for the NFL draft and coaching here at Western. His Pro-Date is in Dallas on March 20.
At the Go Western Auction in February, Jett donated a signed #43 Longhorn Jersey that added to the success of the evening. “The jersey was Mr. Hoff’s idea, I think,” says Jett, “but next time I’m going to donate an NFL one!” Good luck on that, young man, and thanks for giving back!
