Orion Landscape & Construction

We continue highlighting a few of our graduates as they launch out in business. Though Western graduates take a variety of paths in their careers, some have become young entrepreneurs out there!

For our next offering about Old Boys in Business we highlight Nick O’Bar (‘12), a member of Western’s first class and the eldest of three O’Bar brothers to attend Western from the very beginning.

Nick comments on his experience at school, “Western helped me at a young age to realize that no matter what work I do in life, to see it as providing a quality service to people. Going to WA got me out of my comfort zone. Being in theater and choir, for example, taught me about offering myself as a gift, and when we do that, it’s appreciated by others and fulfilling also.”

He mentions specifically about having great leaders in his two years at Western (2010-12), Mr. Hatch and Mr. Presberg. These men “inspired me not to settle for less.”

After a year at college playing football, Nick went to work for his dad in logistics and sales, and then worked at Urban Foresters, a tree service. He started his Orion Construction in August 2023, combining the skills he had gained doing sales, project management, and tree work. He joked that by being at Western also gave him an interest in oak trees!

Orion sports a full-service, licensed landscaping and construction team and Tree group. So far, says Nick, “things are going well this year and continue to grow, and we hope to add another crew by the end of the year. I market my business on every Social Media there is… everything! And of course, by referrals.”

Nick named his business Orion after the Orion Duck Club founded by his father, Mr. Vince O’Bar, Mr. Tim Belton and friends a few years ago. “Orion is the god of hunters,” Nick says, “and I love hunting. So the name speaks to people about who I am.” We say, great job, Nick!

Nick’s youngest brother, John, working part-time maintenance at Western these days while he is in college, sports a nice Orion cap.
