Speech Team Update

Western Academy hosted the 5th annual MS Bard Speech Tournament this past Saturday. The event came off without a hitch, and the visitors from St. Michael's left WA feeling a sense of wonder at the beauty of our campus, delight at the performances of our boys, and gratitude at the hospitality of the WA families. In particular, we would like to thank the Abrells and Whitebreads for manning the Concession Stand and the Tufaros, Whitebreads, O'Bars, and countless others for supplying food and help to the Hospitality Room.

Several Green Jays performed very well in the tournament. Bringing home 1st place Shakespeare busts were Nathan Polzer (Senior Sonnet Division with "Anger"), Johnny O'Bar (Dramatic Interpretation for Triune Diminutive Swine), Ben Aycock (Sacred Scripture for Job), and Ben Aycock and Nathan Polzer (Duet Acting for "Riddles in the Dark" from The Hobbit). Additionally, Andy Caranti was a finalist in a couple of events (3rd in Poetry, 5th in Dramatic Interpretation), as was Christopher Tufaro (2nd in Prose, 3rd in Dramatic Interpretation). Furthermore, Simon Slot took 2nd in Original Oratory, while Johnny O'Bar placed 3rd there, and Nate Twardowski and Luke Broussard were finalists in Duet Acting. Lastly, in Group Acting, two WA groups were finalists, Ben Aycock, Mason Abrell, Andy Caranti, Ayden Walker, Johnny O'Bar, and Nathan Polzer with their The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe scene, and Travis Dunwoody, Mariano and Valentino Vigil, and Luke Broussard with a scene from Shakespeare's Tempest. Well done, boys!
