That’s the SECOND Glueck Wedding!

The second wedding of one of the four Glueck brothers to graduate from Western, Walker Glueck (’18), married Claire Traywick in December. Claire graduated from UT and has begun teaching in College Station while Walker attends Texas A&M. The couple met three years ago while both were counselors at Pine Cove Camp.

Congratulations to Mary Ann and Curtis Glueck, below, at Walker's wedding, parents of four Western boys!

Great memories of Walker signin' that country music for us at Go Western last year, a very gifted young man for sure!

A Marriage of Western houses!

On January 8th, John O'Bar ('18) married Mary Elise Cosgray at a beautiful country church, Guardian Angel Church in Wallis, Texas.

Guardian Angel Church is a beautiful example of a wood-framed, gothic revival church, established by the Czech community in 1913. Wallis is a quaint, rural area located along the rail-line, west of Houston. A perfect spot for a wedding.

Western Chaplain, Fr John Boles, concelebrated the Mass. In his homily, Fr. John mentioned that the marriage takes place in the midst of so many great feast days. "And just like the calendar, everything in our lives should center on Christ. At your baptisms, God made you whole and gave you your vocations, concretized now in your marriage, to become holy as husband and wife, together."

"You are called to lay down your lives for each other rather than bowing to the temptation to lay down the law to each other! Laying aside your grudges, you will forgive. Laying aside your pride, you will apologize. You will lay aside your own priorities now to first spend time with your spouse."

At one point, Fr. John offered St. Josemaria's famous advice to married couples. “Mary Elise, your road to heaven now has a name, it is John. John, your road to heaven now has a name, it is Mary Elise.”

Fr. Thuy Nguyen, the parish priest, with the couple and Fr. John Boles. Fr. Thuy commented on the notable height difference between the two priests!

It was like a marriage of houses, Shell and Green, and even a distant connection to Raven! Johnny and his family is in Shell, including his two brothers, Nick ('12) and David ('13). Mary Elise's family is in Green, with her two brothers, Joseph ('17) and Paul ('23). And to "complicate" things more, Mary Elise's sister, Claire, is married to Luis Vera ('13) who is in Raven!

Both the O'Bar and Cosgray families came to Western in the very early days. Vince and Wendy O'Bar were a key part of getting Western off the ground at its founding in 2010. Above are the O'Bars (L-R) David ('13), Vince (Dad), Wendy (Mom), Mary Elise and John, Nick ('12) and sister, Mary.

John is currently completing his degree in Industrial Engineering at the U. of Houston, and also working in Houston. Mary Elise and John are 20 and 21, respectively, joining a growing string of young Western grads marrying young and starting families. The future it bright!

Congratulations to Wendy and Vince O'Bar and to Jeff and Leslie Cosgray, and to John and Mary Elise!

So many Western boys were on hand for the wedding, along with teachers and parents. Here are a few of us surrounding Johnny on his big day. Johnny's 2018 classmates above included Bruno Castilla, Andy Caranti, Fede Celis and Rafa Parra. Sets of brothers above included the Omanga twins, the Caranti’s, Cosgray’s, Vera’s, O'Bar’s and the Webber brothers.

Joseph Cosgray Wedding

Just a few days after his sister, Mary Elise, married John O'Bar (above), Joseph Cosgray ('13) married Maria Russell at Presentation of the Lord Catholic Church in Montgomery, Texas, on January 16th.

In his homily, Fr. Justin Fletcher mentioned that it was the feast day of St. Marcellus, and that St. Marcellus was the last Pope to be martyred at the end of the reign of Diocletian around 309. He said Marcellus died with the hope of knowing that the persecutions would stop, and there would soon be peace for Christians. On a different scale, in marriage, when we have a bad day, we have to have the firm confidence that it will soon be better, that hope must always exist among couples.

The beautiful Mass was celebrated in the liturgy of the Anglican Use and sung by a resonant male choir. A great day for this young man and his family. Congrats to Jeff and Leslie Cosgray!
