5th grade camping trip, February 20th to February 21st, 2025

Dear Parents of Western Academy's 5th Grade,

Mr. Henderson and Mr. England are excited to announce the upcoming 5th Grade Father-Son Class Camping Trip! We understand it may be unrealistic for every Dad to attend; however, we want to stress that we hope all the boys attend. Dads are welcome to arrive later during the trip if they are unable to join us from the beginning. We will be camping at the Sunair River Ranch located at FM 949 and Schmoeller-Sens Rd Cat Spring TX, January 30th to Friday, January 31st.

Here's the plan:

Thursday, 2/20:
What to Bring: Bring a sack lunch for Departure day / (see packing list below)
Check in: (see options below) and head to Ranch / Lunch on your own / Dinner provided

Friday, 2/21:
Breakfast (provided) / Break camp / Free-time until Lunch at 12 (provided)
Depart for Western Academy by 1:30pm and Arrive at WA by dismissal time

This trip is free for all 5th graders and their dads

GUIDELINES:
Cell phones (Dads): Please, let’s do our best to keep off our phones throughout the course of the campout. This will provide invaluable father-son time and opportunities to visit with other Dads.

Respect of Property:  Main Residence is off limits. Please do not go into any structures except those allowed for use of the restroom… This includes the BARN.  Please do not harass the cattle.

Exploring and Fishing: There are a few lakes for fishing including one across the river that is bigger, “Donut Lake”. Boys can fish on the lake near the house on all sides. The boys are welcome to explore across the river and visit a sandy beach area beyond the “donut” lake.

Please no devices (Boys)! Boys may not bring anything that has an on/off switch aside from a flashlight. (And the rest of us will avoid using such devices except when absolutely necessary… of course...!)

Pocket knives can be brought on the trip, but dads or teachers will keep charge of them and the boys will be permitted to use them only when an adult is present.

No Guns!  Dads, please leave them in your automobiles.

Departure Day Instructions -   (Boys can be dressed in camping clothes—no uniform required)

Drop Off: Dads not driving their boys… Drop off Green Jay and camping gear no later than 8:00 am

Check in: Please indicate to Mr. Henderson who is in your vehicle before departure.

• Option 1: Leave from WA- arrive at Green House driveway; check in; carpool with Mr. E or fly solo.

• Option 2: Dads heading straight to the ranch – email or text Mr. H (preferably before TH) to check in.
