Little Wars Camp

In Little Wars, boys play with historically accurate toy soldiers and engage in outdoor battle reenactments. During Reenactments, close to a hundred boys can be seen amid Western’s greenspaces, yelling and charging at each other with custom built foam weapons and specially designed water rifles. These lively activities foster imaginative play and historical knowledge among the campers. They are also a blast.

Through lively presentations—chock-full of pictures, gesticulations and tactics—campers learn about the war in focus and the strategies used by the armies therein. They craft models of weapons from the war being studied and use these same weapons for their outdoor play. Boys enjoy a blend of small group play and large-scale battles—complete with fortifications, landscapes, and artillery.

Each camper receives a bag of soldiers to take home at week’s end.

This year we will focus on the Boxer Rebellion in China during the turn of the 19th century.
