Enemy at the Gates Camp

Hannibal marches on Rome, vanquishing all who stand in his wake. He has crossed the towering Alps. With his Carthaginian horde spilling into northern Italy, all that remains to conquer is a budding republic in its darkest hour.

Romans, take up arms: war for the Mediterranean world has begun! Craft your blades and sturdy javelins. Balance your shields. Gather your leading citizens turned soldiers. But most of all, keep your wits about you as you face Hannibal, bane of the free world.

Enemy at the Gates camp seeks to immerse boys in the perils and glory of the 2nd Punic war. It is history brought alive: re-enacted stories that stir up the blood in your sons’ chests, giving them a stake in the struggle.

By way of historical presentations, campers will come to grips with the bitter rivalry of Rome and Carthage. They will craft battle-weapons inspired by the arms and armor of the ancient world—yet safe enough to wield in live, outdoor combat. Clashes of swords, fort building, and strategic councils will take place amid the sprawling landscape of Western Academy. Campers will play alternating roles as ‘Defenders of Rome’ and ‘Scourge of Italy.’

Boys will hear of Hannibal Barca’s masterful ruses, the delaying tactics of Fabius Maximus, the daring soldiery of Marcus Marcellus, and the supreme victories of Scipio Africanus. By camps end, they will know what it means to be waylaid by a hellbent foe, to stand their ground, and to face: The Enemy at the Gates.
