Doug Klatt, Music Director, Teacher
Doug Klatt is Western Academy’s Music Director, and teaches lower and middle school music. He co-wrote the school song and helps coordinate the music for all Western Academy school performances. Doug has 17 years of teaching experience in both public and private schools and has taught music, history and Spanish. He began his teaching career at Northridge Preparatory School in Niles, Illinois, where he taught History for 3 years. Afterward, he taught Spanish at Glenbrook South High School in Glenview, Illinois for 7 years and created a Spanish program for the entire K-8 student population at the Academy of Our Lady in Waukegan, Illinois. Doug is also an accomplished musician and composer who has performed with numerous bands (including his own family's band - The Klatts), and has taught private lessons in guitar, piano, voice and violin for the past 10 years. Doug graduated with a B.A. in history from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois, received an M.A. in history from the Iberoamerican University in Mexico City, Mexico where he was class valedictorian, and is currently working towards an M.A. in music education from VanderCook School of Music in Chicago, Illinois.
